View from our Apartment in Chiang Mai
After almost four months of hotel and guesthouse stays this is our first long-term place again. We’ve spent the holidays at the beaches and islands in Southern Thailand and have now returned to Chiang Mai for the third time (we came here after Bali and Laos already).
We have a cozy little corner apartment with this cute balcony that gives us a little bit of city view over Chiang Mai. I absolutely love that it is a corner unit on the top floor with big windows and lots of natural light. One wall is painted sunshine yellow even.
The place is a little outside of the old city but close to Kad Suan Kaew mall and in walking distance to a lovely little coffee shop that is quickly turning into our new favorite hangout. The coffee shop is called Akha Ama after a Akha hill tribe who is growing the organic coffee beans.
We are now staying in a local neighborhood. Hardly any tourists get lost in here and other foreigners are mainly expats or Thai massage school students. We quite enjoy living side-by-side with local residents and being able to observe their day to day life.
We went on apartment search on a previous visit to Chiang Mai and had found our favorite then already. But this time around they didn’t have any openings until later this month. We weren’t to eager on starting the search anew, so were quite happy to find our current, lovely apartment at only the second place we looked at.
In case anyone is interested, the building is called The Mountain House. The lower floors have rooms that are rented out on a daily basis and the higher floors are for monthly rental. Rates range from 3,500-4,500 Baht ($115-150) depending on the length of your stay. Free wifi is included, water and electricity are charged extra.
